Membership
The CBOA is a membership organisation representing companies that own or move freight, operate vessels and freight facilities on the UK’s inland waterways. Our organisation is also open to those with a general interest and who support the increased use of waterways for freight movement.
It is the leading association dedicated to the use of waterways for the carriage of freight and enabling this environmentally friendly transport to form part of integrated multimodal supply chains.
CBOA lobbies national and local government, navigation and planning authorities and others as necessary on behalf of its members and is also active in representing its members in the Press and at Logistics and Maritime conferences and exhibitions.

How to join us
The Commercial Boat Operators Association is open to membership from both businesses – those who operate vessels, wharves, freight facilities and associated businesses and associates – those who agree with the association objectives.
Trade membership subscriptions are related to the type/size of the member firm and are as follows:
- Barge Operators (5 or more craft) – £450
- Barge Operators (max. 5 craft), work boats, consultants, yards, wharves – £200
- Narrow boat/narrow canal operators – £70
- Associates – £30
